Keith R. Guericke

President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Guericke, Director, has held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company since 1988. Mr. Guericke joined the Company's predecessor, Essex Property Corporation, in 1977 to focus on investment strategies and portfolio expansion. Mr. Guericke prepared the Company for its IPO in 1994, and has since significantly increased the Company's multifamily portfolio in supply-constrained markets along the West Coast. Mr. Guericke is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Multi-Housing Council, and several local apartment industry groups. Prior to joining Essex, Mr. Guericke began his career with Kenneth Leventhal & Company, a CPA firm noted for its real estate expertise. Mr. Guericke received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Southern Oregon College in 1971.

Karen J. Knudson
Retired
Ms. Knudson is a retired real estate investment professional with 25 years of experience spent as a portfolio manager or senior executive in the REIT industry. Her investing success was driven by her understanding of, and focus on, strategies that create shareholder value. Prior to her retirement, Ms. Knudson oversaw $10 billion of client assets invested in publicly traded real estate securities at RREEF. She led a team of portfolio managers that became one of the top performing REIT management teams in the industry - their achievements included managing a mutual fund that received a 5-star Morningstar rating. Before joining RREEF, Ms. Knudson served as CFO of Security Capital Group (acquired by GE in 2002). Prior to that she was Director of Real Estate Research of Bailard, Biehl & Kaiser as well as President and CEO of the BB&K REIT. Ms. Knudson is a past member of the Board of Governors of NAREIT and received her Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA and her MBA from UC Berkeley.

Mr. Nadji possesses 20 years of experience in real estate research, marketing and technology management. He oversees Marcus & Millichap’s research division, including economic and real estate information tracking, analysis and the production of the group’s various publications. The division consists of 30 real estate research professionals. The group’s activities and publications support valuation, underwriting and development of specific investment strategies for the firm’s brokerage clients. He also manages the design and application of various research and marketing tools and analysis-related technology, as well as various real estate supply and demand analyses and databases.
Mr. Nadji joined Marcus & Millichap in 1996 as vice president of research and was promoted to managing director in April 2000. Formerly, he was the national director of research and information services for Grubb & Ellis Company, where he was responsible for managing the company’s national research group, including real estate and economic analysis for all major real estate sectors, real estate information technology and client-specific consulting assignment. Mr. Nadji received a Bachelor of Science degree from City University in Seattle.
